Wine to Be

12×18 original pastel on sanded paper

I look at some of my paintings I did a while ago, and I see abstract shapes in backgrounds.  I think I was playing with abstractness back then, though really cutting loose with abstracts is a new phenomenon for me.  I notice progress, trends, and starts in my work.  I painted this while living in California.  When we arrived, I was in awe of the oranges, lemons and grapes that grew in abundance.  I grew up in Nevada, where sagebrush grows, so to see such color and juiciness was a sensory delight.
