9×12 original pastel on sanded paper

Ryan was a little homeschooling guy I observed at a pool.  His hair always interested me because it was thick and generally went in various directions.  I painted his skin with strokes of green and orange and yellow.  When I was a girl with a coloring book, skin was always depicted with my “skin color” crayon.  It is nice to be older and realize that  you can see all kinds of colors in skin.  I like to push color to the extreme.  The background, though just blobs and lines, “reads” water.
